Park Office: We have begun work on the new park
office. Hillside Camp Ground donated a small cabin
that we are currently remodeling. This will allow us
to spend more time at the park greeting visitors.
Siding is up and we will be moving the new office
into the park within the next few weeks!
Dick
Elvin, aged 71, passed away on July 9, 2011.
Dick was born on May 18, 1940 in
Indiana. He moved to Ohio and became a volunteer at The Ohio
Veterans' Memorial Park. Dick was a veteran and served as 2nd LT in
the US Army 378th Ordinance Co. 1963 - 1965.
Dick received the Army Commendation
Medal for meritorious service.
We will miss you
friend!
A memorial bench
has been placed at The Park in honor of Dick.
LEGAL ISSUES
Some of you are aware of a
few legal issues that the OVMP Board has been having to deal
with over the past few months. We are happy to announce that
these have finally come to an end.
The events for 2012 are
underway at The Ohio Veterans' Memorial Park. The focus this
year is to engrave the names of the 275 Heroes from Ohio who
lost their lives in The War On Terrorism.
The Ohio Veterans' Memorial Park is
the home of The Ohio Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Wall. This 125 foot
long black granite wall is the longest free standing monument in the
United States.
The polished black granite wall is
engraved with the names of 3,094 men and 1 woman who gave their
lives in combat in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War.
The back of the wall is engraved
with the histories of every war that Ohio has been involved,
beginning with the War Of 1812.
Please
take a moment to visit our biography section. Read the
amazing stories of the men and women who served and
sacrificed so that we may live free in this great
nation.
You can also submit
your own hero's story, along with photos, documents and
more.
It is very
important that we share the stories of the
men and women who have paid the ultimate
price to ensure our freedom and safety.
We
would like to thank all who have generously donated to
the Ohio Veterans' Memorial Park. As most of you know,
the park has been built with private donations and is
not funded by the State of Ohio.
We ask that you please
consider donating what you can to help us get this park
finished. You can donate at the park, by mail and you
can even donate on-line!
A
SPECIAL THANK YOU TO THE FRIENDS AND FAMILY OF THE WADSWORTH 13
The
Ohio Veterans' Memorial Park Pavers are a great way to
honor and thank your veteran. These pavers make up the
walk-way that runs through-out the park.
The pavers
come in two sizes, 4" X 8" or 8" X 8" and can be
customized with your own personal message.
Please
click the following link for more information about the
Memorial Pavers.
We would like to
take this opportunity to say thank you to a special group of people. On May 9,
2010 we were honored to be part of a beautiful bench dedication for the thirteen
men who lost their lives during the Vietnam War from Wadsworth, Ohio. They have
come to be known as The Wadsworth 13.
The
friends and family members of these heroes have become great friends to us. In
addition to the bench, they have also donated over $ 3,000.00 to the POW / MIA
Pond, they had a lunch catered and served at the park for the park committee and
volunteers, they have manned booths at festivals for and with us and have
attended nearly every service at the park since then.
Thank you Friends And Family Of The
Wadsworth 13.
We look forward to 2011!
The
Clinton Cemetery Association purchased the barn that
sits in front of The Ohio Veterans' Memorial Park in
2011. They graciously donated the use of the barn to the
park.
Ken Noon thought of
the idea to paint the barn and add the logos of all of
the branches of the military to it. The painting is
completed and we are working on the logos.
The barn, in the future, will
serve as a stage for special events, park offices,
storage and more.
We have been told that the barn
belonged to a player of the Canton Bulldogs, the first
pro-football team, and the beginning of the Cleveland
Browns. We are still researching this.
